Cappoquin Community Development Company Celebrating 30 years with many Accomplishments!
Cappoquin Community Development Company CLG and Cappoquin Regeneration Company CLG are both voluntary community companies established and operating in Cappoquin.
CCDC CLG was established in 1993 and it operates and manages Cappoquin Community Centre and 6 small enterprise units at the IDA Cappoquin Industrial Estate.
Both companies are managed by a Management Committee comprising 14 local voluntary community persons.This management committee meets monthly and receives reports from Finance, Hall and Gym and Childcare subcommittees. The Company has this year appointed a full time Business Development Manager with the prime responsibility of extending existing services and developing new services. The Company also employs 2 administrative assistants.
Cappoquin Community Centre, opened in 2007, incorporates childcare services, adult education facilities, meeting rooms, a gymnasium, a commercial kitchen and a sports hall which converts to a 600 seater theatre for live stage events.
The total cost of construction was €3.2M and as of the end of 2022, the Company is debt free.
The Childcare provides facilities for children from 6 months age to school going age and approximately 130 children attend each week. This service provides employment for 20 fully qualified childcare staff.
The Waterford Wexford Educational Training Board leases rooms from the Company and provides full time adult educational, literacy and training programmes throughout the year.
The gym, open from 8.00am to 9.30pm, operates on a member only basis with online booking in place. This is a high demand facility with over 200 members.
The sports hall provides for badminton, circuit training, indoor football and hurling, mother and baby group and other activities. As a theatre the facility has hosted most of the leading Irish performers, including, Nathan Carter, Mike Denver, Mario Rosenstock, the late Brendan Bowyer, the late Brendan Grace, Keith Barry, Tommy Tiernan, Brendan Shine, Christy Moore, the 3 Amigos and many more.
Probably the most significant event to take place in the Community Centre was the All Island Pride of Place awards ceremony in 2008 which was attended by the President of Ireland, Ms Mary McAleese. 500 people representing communities in each of the 32 counties and islands off the coast attended a seated banquet.
